It was a training session in one of my previous companies on soft skills.. Our trainer, an extremely experienced person was throwing tricky questions on us to catch and answer 😉
He looked towards me and asked – “In your everyday life, who is the one you talk most with?” I blinked for a moment and said.. with my husband.. 🙂
He glared and said.. it’s a wrong answer.. .. Aeeemmm.. Howcome?? I thought.. 😯
I peeped in my mind, who else then? 😕
You would agree that our mind can think 1000 things at a time.. Mine did the same.. I thought of all the people I talk to everyday, my parents, close friends, in laws.. And then repeated within me with surety.. I know I talk to my husband the most.. 😎
To end my mind battle, he asked me “Do you talk to yourself”.. I said yes obviously….
Guess!!! That was the right answer, but I was thinking “then why did’nt I answer that?” Don’t we all know that we speak to ourselves the most? .. But still I can say people won’t answer this question right… That was the right answer.. We talk to ourselves the most!! 😀
Isn’t it true? With the on-the-go internet privilege we have, we are connected with friends from childhood to college friends to ex-colleagues and even bosses on social media.. We know what’s happening in their life as we “follow” them.. But truly ask yourself, how many of these REALLY know you? May be just a handful.. I am sure no one would have a bigger number to say here.
Think about this; when you meet someone, as a formality you ask “how are you” and to return the formality, even they reply “fine”.. Now, how many of us really want to know how the other person is? And how many are really fine when they reply?
We have trained ourselves to speak in a way the other person expects.. It’s a social norm now.. 😐
It’s just YOU within that knows the real YOU. When you talk to yourself, you won’t fake anything..
That’s what I have been practicing since long.. When I come back tired from office, it’s a “Coffee date I have with myself”.. Its away from the fake world around..
I speak my heart to myself.. My experiences of the day, my moods.. A relaxed time sitting in the balcony with coffee mug in the hand and my fresh plants around with colourful flowers peeping out.. The fragrance, the breeze, the birds in the sky.. A complete stress buster experience!! 😀
These small little moments are the pillars of a happy and relaxed mind!!
So when is your COFFEE DATE with YOU?? 😉
Nice, Honest and True thoughts Aparna!
